Beethoven's passionate compositions radically redefined the symphony, sonata form, and string quartet. A tempestuous person, Beethoven suffered hearing loss from a young age. He never married, but pined for his mysterious 'Immortal Beloved,' whose identity remains unknown to this day. Although some scholars believe they have identified her as Josephine Brunsvik.
